Democratic candidate Max Myers enters the race for governor today. Reverend Myers was formerly a pastor with the Assemblies of God and was director of the Global School of Supernatural Ministry (GSSM).
Reverend Myers’ GSSM is affiliated with the Apostolic Network of Global Awakening that vigorously pursues an anti-abortion and anti-gay rights agenda.
I strongly support marriage equality and would work to guarantee equal treatment under the law for the LGBT community in hiring, housing, education and all facets of life. I will also protect a woman’s right to control her reproductive life and will make sure Pennsylvania law recognizes the validity of the Supreme Court’s Roe vs. Wade decision.
My understanding is that Reverend Myers wishes to overturn Roe vs. Wade, opposes marriage equality for same-sex couples, opposes banning discrimination against the LGBT community in employment, housing and public accommodations.
Pennsylvania voters deserve a chance to compare our ideas about personal liberty and about how to make sure all Pennsylvanians have access to a good public education and health care. The best forum for that comparison would be a debate, so I invite Reverend Myers to debate me at his earliest convenience.
